What a weekend ! The Kernow Dive Festival 11th and 12th june 2005, what more could you ask for ? Great weather, good people and great vis, most of us from Ilfracombe dive club booked on for the festival, headed down to Penzance for the weekend Tents, Vans, Bongos, Rib and a couple of members took our Neptune ( hard boat ) round the coast. on friday in anticipation of a good weekends diving. Most of us arrived in the late hours of friday evening at Cardinney camp Site. ( special thanks to the owners as they put up with a mass of divers over 120 of us, for the weekend as we are not the quietest of guest's ). Anyway the weekend had started and after a few light refreshments we chat with the DO ( Steve Ashton ), we realize we will have to be up soon! to book on to dive 08.30 hours at the Penzance dive club house. Saturday Morning 06.30 divers up and looking a bit frazzled, make way to book on. With a impessive selection of dives I was booked on to dive the Lincoln a great wreck that has split in 2 at about 35 meters. I jumped aboard the MCD2 Rib and introduced myself to the other divers. I was to buddy up with a chap called Tony ( Hi m8! ) and we set off to the site with Chris Lobb at the rib controls. Upon arrival we met up with Combe Diver ( Our Rib with Martin Stone at the controls ) . Second pair in and we decended down the shotline the vis was a good 15 -20 meters and with camera in hand we made our way round the site lots of life and a very territorial cuckoo wrass check out the gallery to see the pics.. After the mornings dive i decided not to dive again that day but some members even managed a second and third dive. I settled for a good lunch and soak up some of the great sunsine on offer, and assisted some of the other divers off loading kit from the ribs and generaly have a good time. As it happens i ended up staying until about six in the evening only to be treated with the opportunity to watch the Red Arrows do a display across the sea front. Then i headed back to the campsite to join in the fun and the great barbecue. |
