There is to be a "Grand Marine Event" at Blackpool Sands (south of Dartmouth, between Streete and Stoke Fleming on the A379 coast road) on Sat 12th August. The Marine Conservation Society roadshow, Living Coasts, Torbay Coast & Countryside Trust, the Shark Trust and hopefully Devon Wildlife Trust will all be there with their stands, together with Seasearch. We will be doing Seasearch shore dives starting at about 9am and then filling in forms (don't think we have any records from there so far), talking to the public about what we do and showing them some results. The event and diving are free but you will have to pay a carpark charge of £6. The large beach is ideal for families, with a cafe, shop, toilets, watersports hire, lifeguards etc and there will be lots going on so you could make it a family day out. There will be a rockpool ramble in the afternoon for the children. I'd like some idea of how many Seasearchers would like to come so please email if you think you will be able to. Seasearch evening dives are re-commencing from Mountbatten, this time on Thursday evenings and on the hardboat Seeker. Seeker will run with a minimum of 4 people. The boat leaves at 6pm, price £12.50 and you can book a place by emailing

I'm going this Thursday 20th and hope to see some of you there. We usually go to the Mountbatten Hotel after to fill in our Seasearch forms. I have just two places left for the Sat/Sun 19/20 August out of Salcombe. This trip is only costing £15 per day for two RIB dives each day and as there are several experienced Seasearchers going it would be ideal for anyone wanting to learn more or get their qualifying forms done. I'm hoping to arrange some more of the deep drop off dives during August - probably weekdays. The last ones we did a deep (to 40m) dive each morning and recorded the sunset cup corals and forests of sea fans and then carried out a fan shell survey off the Hoe the first afternoon and recorded 4 new ones. On the second day we also found scarlet and gold corals at Penlee. If you are interested and have any particular days free then let me know. Enjoy your diving. Sally |
