CHRISTMAS DINNER AND PARTY

After months of planning and preparation the dive club hosts the 2011 Christmas dinner and party. I say hosts because for the first time the “do” is to be at our own club-house. We are so lucky to own our own club-house and bar.
A dream of many years held by Maggs Ashton has been to hold the event at our club. After years of going to local hotels and golf club. This year Rick, Chris and Tracy plan to grant Maggs her dream. We hope you enjoy the evening Maggs.
Back in September we started to plan the evening which resulted in 40 members and their partners attending on Saturday December 3rd at 7pm.
The day before Rick was the delivery man bringing all the gear from Barnstaple to Ilfracombe.

Chris and Tracy spent the morning like two witches with pots bubbling away brewing up a fantastic curry by Chris and a hot hot chilli by Tracy. Neither one of us measure anything so it was a case of chucking everything together.
The afternoon saw all three of us at the club transforming the compressor room and garage into an intimate function room. It was draped completely in black drapes with white stars hanging from the ceiling. It was fully carpeted and special lighting to create that cosy feeling. All the tables were white and black. It looked stunning!

The Menu
Melon;
Chicken curry and rice or Beef chilli and rice served with rustic fresh bread;
A selection of cold meats and prawns served with a selection of salads, pickles and buttered new potatoes:
A Christmas tree of delights made by Rick displayed a wonderful selection of sweets. From trifles to a wonderful selection of cheese cakes;
cheese board with a great selection of cheeses served with fine biscuits and grapes;
Tea/coffee and mints served in the bar.
All this for just £10 per person!
Book early for our next “do” as there is likely to be a right crowd looking for tickets.
The evening continued with a great draw which raised nearly £300 for ILFSAC. Rick our resident DJ made the evening rock on until 1.30 am. Fran and Jack were seen trotting the light fantastic on the dance floor. We hope everyone enjoyed the evening.
A big thankyou to Chrissy for all her efforts with the bar. Special thanks to Yvonne, Simon and Mel for help with the clean up.
Anyone with ideas for next year or anyone able to organise a party please see or ring Chris 07966 374210. Events like this helps to pay for your diving so any input from members would be good. I am thinking about a Chairman’s Party sometime in March to start the dive season off. Anyone who would like to help me with this “do” would be welcome.
