SCUBA STEVE GOES CCR 21st January 2011
Hi gargantuan dive fellows; Scuba Steve here, last Saturday I invited my good dive buddy Piers down to Babacombe to a belated birthday dive for him; which Paul kindly arranged. I still cant quite work out how old Piers actually is and I’m not sure if he knows either? Still who’s worried?
The usual Scuba Steve entourage was in tow for the day, thanks gang really appreciate the support or is it adulation, don’t worry I can handle it if it is.

Thanks to Alec for coming down and taking some more snaps of me. You might have noticed an addition to my dive kit. I was chatting to Martin the other day and thought I would give a rebreather a go. After all Martin is always banging on about how great it is (bet he bored the ar*e of you as well and I thought it might keep him quiet!)
Anyway I bet you want to know how it went…
Unfortunately there was a bit of swell but after a look around we decided the best entry point was from the pier wall so we dived from the steps into a balmy 8 Occ the viz was up to about 4m with some cloudy parts. I looked long and hard for fish life but only managed a few crabs and snails. Now on to what you’re waiting for the CCR bit, or “carrying me luggage around when I should have left it on the carousel at the airport “
To be honest I don’t understand what all the fuss was about, buoyancy was good, no problems with not breathing the gas out on exhalation. I didn’t use hardly any gas and although I had a short dive I can see how good it could be. I’m thinking I might go for an evolution if I can get one made to fit my slim, trim Lilliputian frame. Can anyone help make me one? I might chat to Paul although not to sure as my scuba Santa suit didn’t live up to my Saville row expectations!
Martin has invited me to the red sea in march and as I found it so easy I might have a go at my CCR trimix while I’m there or I might just lie about and check out the local scenery.
After that we all toured the streets of Torquay for an hour looking for another dive site, I had a bit of a heavy night on Friday so I chilled out in the van while Lorraine tried out her twin set, and Piers and Paul headed for Shag rock, they were ages don’t know what they were up to over there? I was well naffed off when they got back as we were meant to be off for a few sherbets afterwards.
Anyway Happy Birthday Piers Henry Biddle, hope you had a good night as I bombed out early
